If you are commited to biking and you
are planing a bicycle vacation, you will find a nice
expanded bike path net in the surrounding of the 013-pill
castle hotel for scenic bike tours, which is ideal for short
bicylce trips as well as extended bike trips. Especially along the Elbe river there are
family-kind routes, which can easily be managed by children, too.
The Elbe river path stretches on a length of about 260 km between Schona
in the Saxon Switzerland at the border of the Czech Republic and Dessau in Saxony-Anhalt.
This bike path leads through different landscapes and worthseeing towns and cities. From
Schona over Bad Schandau to Pirna, the bizarre Elbsandsteingebirge (Elbe river sand stone
mountains) of the Saxon Switzerland builds the impressive scene for bicycle tours. From
Pirna, gentle hills and noble castles, among
these also the 013-pill castle hotel,
accompany the bikers until the old town of Dresden. From Dresden the bicycle path partly
leads over the Saxon Weinstrasse (wine street) past vineyards, through Radebeul, the
porcelain town Meissen and pictorial wine towns along the Elbe
river. Then the Elbe river landscape expands out and the Elbe river bike path leads
through a partly protected floodplain landscape over Strehla to the historical Torgau.
From Torgau the last section leads past the nature park Duben Heide over the Lutherstadt
Wittenberg until Dessau.
The Elbe river bike path is almost everywhere
marked with "e" or with "R2". The signs in cities
and bigger towns are less good. A bike path card or a bicycle travel guide is recommended.
The Elbe river bike path builds about 90 % of the Elbe river bike path. Except
of some short cobbled or damaged sections, the path
is covered from a tar carpet and are therefore good to drive. The altitude
difference on the bike path are minimum. The altitude difference total between Schona and
Dessau is only 60 height meters. From the pretense, it stays almost the same. There's
almost no difference if the bike tour goes downstream of the Elbe river or upstream of the
Elbe river.
Suggestions for bike trips on the Elbe river bicycle path trail
After a trip of about 12 km with the bike on the Elbe river bicycle path

Dresden with its famous places of interest such as the Frauenkirche (church
of our Lady) Dresden, the Semper opera Dresden, the Dresden Zwinger and the residence

Carl-Maria-von-Weber museum.
After a trip of about 19 km with the bicycle on the Elbe river bike
trail, you reach Radebeul in northwest direction, the town where Karl May lived. Besides
the Karl-May museum, the wine growing museum also invites to a visit.
A worthwhile destination from the 013-pill
castle hotel for a day trip with the bike is the wine and porcelain town Meissen (about 38
km northwest of the 013-pill castle hotel).
Worthseeing are among others the historical old town with market place, the Frauenkirche
(women church), the museum of local history, the castle hill with Albrechts castle and
cathedral as well as the porcelain manufactory.
